Assembly

The Volkswagen Poznań Assembly Division is one of the largest areas in terms of the number of employees.

Assembly of two models, Caddy and Transporter T5, is performed in a hall of the area of 29,000 m2 (area of approx. 5 football fields) on a common assembly line of 1250 m in length. The assembly line is divided into 3 areas:

1_cr.jpg High Line Area - 3 assembly sections equipped with hangers, on which cars are placed, which enables performing any necessary works also in the area of chassis. The hangers height can be adjusted, thus improving the ergonomics.
In this area all components co the chassis and all components of the car interior located under the upholstery are mounted. At the end of the third section, wheels are mounted, and the car is released from the hanger.

Area of Low Line - another 2 sections of assembly, where the cars stand on their own wheels, on special skids, and are transported along the assembly line. In these sections, the internal equipment of the vehicle is installed, glazing is glued, and additional equipment according to the customer order is installed.

Area of assembly of the transmission system and so called "wedding" – in this area, located out of the main assembly line, the "heart" of the vehicle, i.e. motor, transmission (gearbox) and other components re combined into the transmission system, and then it is transported to one of the sections of the assembly line where the so called "wedding" i.e. connection of the transmission system with the partially equipped car body takes place. 2_cr.jpg

After the assembly operations on the High Line, connecting it with the transmission system, installation of the car interior equipment, and filling the systems with the appropriate liquids, the car, after starting the engine, leaves the assembly line.
Then the car is driven to the next hall with the area of 1600 m2, where various controls and final acceptance are performed. In this area, the following operations are carried out:
- adjustment of wheel alignment,
- checking the car in a special cabin – simulation of car ride on special rollers, which enable checking functions of all car subassemblies and ride parameters, as during the test drive;
- 100% check for possible noises – the car is driven on a specially prepared sections of road with different pavement, where the controller is able to trap any noises,
- check of tightness in a special sprinkling chamber – the car is checked for possible leakages, e.g. doors, glazing, etc.
The vehicle, prepared and checked as described, gets a permission to leave the factory and may be transferred to external customer through a dealer network.

One finished car leaves the assembly line every 109 seconds, and an average assembly time of a car counted from its entering the assembly line to its leaving the factory is approx.12 hours. On the assembly lines, approximately 3 thousand components and assemblies are assembled. In order to facilitate the work in the area of the assembly line, 3 robots and 25 manipulators are used, such as manipulators for the assembly of the whole front belt, seats or cockpit. However, most of the assembly operations are performed manually, and therefore the most important element of the factory is its personnel.

Our employees, by performing their tasks diligently and with great dedication, contribute to accomplishment of the company targets, such as production of the planned number of cars of the highest quality.
